The English Institute of Sport (EIS) have announced the appointment of Tash Carpenter as the organisation's director of communications.

She will be part of the EIS senior leadership team under the stewardship of national director Nigel Walker, and will be responsible for all aspects of internal and external communications.

Carpenter has more than 10 years of experience in sports communications having held roles at the British Paralympic Association, where she worked at London 2012 and Rio 2016, and Premiership Rugby, where she has been head of communications since April.

Carpenter expressed her pride at her new role.

"I am excited and proud to have been offered such a brilliant opportunity and to be joining the EIS," she said.

"I have great respect for all the work that Nigel [Walker] and his team at the EIS have delivered over the years.

"I am looking forward to getting started."

Walker added: "Tash was the outstanding candidate among a very high-quality field of applicants for the role.

"She combines a superb track-record in sports communications with excellent personal qualities and I am sure she will thrive at the EIS.

"This is a very exciting time to be part of the high-performance system and I have no doubt that Tash will make a great contribution to our leadership team and have a very positive impact on the EIS over the course of the Tokyo 2020 cycle."

EIS aim to help elite athletes improve performance using science, medicine, technology and engineering.

They claim to have worked with 93 per cent of the British athletes that won a medal at the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
