South Korea's Alpine snowboarders and mogul skiers will not stay at the Olympic Village at Pyeongchang 2018 to help them "maintain their best form", a Korean Ski Association (KSA) official has claimed.

The decision has been taken as the venue for parallel giant slalom and freestyle skiing moguls events is located around 40 minutes away from the Village.

Competition in the two disciplines is due to be held at the Bokwang Phoenix Park, around 24 kilometres from the Athletes' Village.

The nine athletes will instead stay at a resort closer to the venue, an unnamed KSA official told South Korean news agency Yonhap.

The official insisted it would provide a boost to their chances of success at next month's Winter Olympic Games, scheduled to run from February 9 to 25.

"To help athletes in parallel giant slalom snowboarding events and moguls maintain their best form, they'll not enter the Olympic Village," the official was quoted as saying.

"Since the athletes are familiar with the resort, they'll be able to maintain a good condition."

The nine competitors are among 31 athletes from the host nation who are set to participate in snow sports at their home Games.

South Korea has never won an Olympic medal in any snow sport discipline.

They are pinning their hopes on the likes of snowboarder Lee Sang-ho, who has a best International Ski Federation World Cup result of fourth, and moguls skier Choi Jae-woo.

South Korea's best chance of medal success is likely to come in skating and sliding sports.
