Zurich is set to host an FEI World Cup Jumping Western European League event for the final time this weekend amid financial and organisational challenges.

The Swiss city first staged a competition on the circuit 30 years ago but this weekend's competition marks the last to be held there.

Andy Kistler of the Swiss Riding Federation admitted it is a disappointment to see the city host an event on the calendar for the last time but hopes Zurich will go out with a bang.

"It’s sad but it’s unfortunately true," Kistler was quoted as saying by Eurosport.

"What began in 1988 will end with the 30th edition in 2018.

"But anyway, the last CSI 5 *-W Zurich will once again be a great event: now it’s up to us to create a party that will remain in our memories.”

A host of Swiss riders have entered the event, which begins tomorrow.

London 2012 Olympic champion Steve Guerdat is among those who are due to represent the host nation, along with Romain Duguet, Paul Estermann, Niklaus Rutschi, Pius Schwizer, Janika Sprunger, European Young Riders champion Bryan Balsiger.

Germany's Christian Ahlmann will look to continue his good run of form after he triumphed at the last World Cup Jumping competition in Leipzig.

European team champions Bertram Allen, Denis Lynch and Mark McAuley of Ireland are also among the list of participants.
