Home favourite Anthony Sinisuka Ginting booked his place in the men’s singles final at the Badminton World Federation Indonesia Masters in Jakarta.

The 21-year-old surprisingly beat Olympic champion Chen Long of China yesterday and built on his success in the semi-finals.

He claimed the opening game 21-16 at the Istora Gelora Bung Karno venue, but his opponent Chou Tien Chen hit back by winning the second 21-12.

Ginting eventually got the better of his Taiwanese rival by winning the decider 21-12.

The home hope will now face Kazumasa Sakai in the men’s final of this HSBC BWF World Tour Super 500 event after the Japanese player saw off fourth defeated Son Wan Ho of South Korea.

Sakai emerged as a 21-18, 20-22, 21-15 winner.

In the women’s singles, world number one Tai Tzu Ying came from a game down to reach the final.

Having been edged out of the first game 21-19 by China’s He Bingjiao, the Taiwanese player recovered to win the remaining games 21-15, 21-15 to advance.

Tai is now due to take on India’s Saina Nehwal in tomorrow’s final after she overcame fourth seed Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand 21-19, 21-19.

Hosts Indonesia have a strong chance of success in doubles competitions, with three of their pairings having progressed.

Greysia Polii and Apriyani Rahayu triumphed in dramatic fashion against South Korea’s Lee So Hee and Shin Seung Chan, winning 21-11, 17-21, 21-17 to reach the women’s doubles final.

They are set tol play Japan’s Olympic champions Misaki Matsutomo and Ayaka Takahsahi following their thrilling 23-25, 21-15, 21-16 success against Denmark’s Kamilla Ryter Juhl and Christinna Pedersen.

Indonesia’s Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Kevin Sanjaya Sukmukjo continued to justify their status as top seeds in the men’s doubles.

They beat India’s Satwiksairaj and Chirag Shetty 21-14, 21-11 in their semi-final.

The home pairing will face Li Junhui and Liu Yuchen in the final after they won an all-Chinese tie against Liu Cheng and Zhang Nan 26-24, 14-21, 21-12.

An all-Indonesian mixed doubles match saw Tontowi Ahmad and Liliyana Natsir triumph 22-20, 21-17 against Praveen Jordan and Melati Daeva Oktavianti.

The top seeds are set to play Zheng Siwei and Huang Yaqiong in the final after the Chinese pair’s 21-18, 21-14 win over Malaysia’s Goh Soon Huat and Shevon Jemie Lai.
