China will be seeking triple gold on home mats when the Taekwondo World Cup Team Championships take place tomorrow to bring an end to five weeks of top class competition here.

It follows the inaugural World Taekwondo Grand Slam Champions Series held here over the last four Saturdays.

Team competitions are the most innovative event on the taekwondo programme and are billed as a "maelstrom of lightning substitutions, whirling players and flying feet".

It is described as a faster and more spectator-friendly format which, it is hoped, could be successfully proposed for inclusion at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

China will start as clear favourites in the women's competition after winning at last month's World Taekwondo Team Championships in Abidjan.

They will resume their rivalry with South Korea, the second-place finishers in the Ivorian city.

World champions Iran and second placed Russia lead the entries for the corresponding men's event.

China will also appear courtesy of a host nation place while South Korea have received a World Taekwondo Technical Committee recommendation.

China will then face-off against Russia in the mixed-gender competition.

Men's and women's teams consist of five athletes while mixed squads are made up of two men and two women.

Teams are, however, permitted a maximum of two foreign athletes from any nation other than those already competing here.

Competition will start in a traditional format in which fighters oppose others in their weight divisions.

In the third and fourth rounds, though, a "tag team" format consisting of five minutes with up to 12 switches will be adopted.

The team that reaches a score of 40 in the men's and women's events, and 30 in the mixed competition, shall be declared the winner.
