Turkey's Irem Yaman enjoyed a shock win on the final day of the World Taekwondo Grand Slam Champions Series event in Wuxi today.

Yaman had not been among the favourites beforehand in the women's under 57 kilograms division and had been forced to first negate the qualification tournament.

But she first stunned double Olympic champion Jade Jones of Great Britain in the quarter-final by "superiority" after a 5-5 draw before a dominant win over China's Zongshi Luo, 24-6, at the Wuxi Taihu International Expo Centre.

She then edged another Chinese fighter in Lijun Zhou, 2-0, in a tightly contested final decided by a golden point.

The shock results continued as South Korea's world champion Ah-reum Lee was beaten 33-10 by Luo in the bronze medal match.

South Korea enjoyed more success in the men's under 58kg category as Kim Tae-hun continued the dominant form he showed throughout 2017,

The triple world champion beat compatriot and qualifier Jang Jun 37-16 in the final.

Russia's Mikhail Artamonov defeated Wu Ruidong of China, 26-16, to win the bronze medal.

"Over the last four weekends we have seen breath-taking action, draw-dropping athleticism and thrilling results.

"This is why we established this Grand Slam.

"We want to put the best against the best and give taekwondo fans all over the world the most exciting matches.

"We have pioneered a number of new initiatives here in Wuxi as we constantly look to make taekwondo more entertaining for spectators and fans."

Wuxi is due to play host to the World Taekwondo World Cup Team Championships next weekend.
