Acting Krasnoyarsk Governor Alexander Uss and Presidential Plenipotentiary to the Siberian Federal District Sergey Menyailo have visited several facilities which are being constructed especially for the 2019 Winter Universiade in Krasnoyarsk.

Among the venues that the duo visited were the Kristall Ice Arena and the Yenesei Stadium which, according to the building contractors, are both on schedule.

The Kristall Ice Arena is set to be completed and operational in June 2018 while the Yenesei Stadium will hold its first test event, the World Youth Ice Hockey Championship, in January 2019.

During the visit, Uss said: "There is no doubt that the sports venues will be delivered on time.

"When locals see them [the venues] in all their glory, it will be obvious to everybody that there are no such winter sports facilities elsewhere in Russia.

"But, in order to make Krasnoyarsk residents feel comfortable in using the facilities, we need to spend the summer construction season cleaning up so that the area is orderly and improved.

"I am sure that we will be able to do this and be pleased with the result."

Menyailo added: "The most important issue now is the preparation of Krasnoyarsk, its infrastructure and the improvement of the city.

"It is necessary to consider all options for the arrival of guests, who will be coming for the Games, to the region.

"We need to ensure that those responsible for the preparations of the 2019 Winter Universiade are working together."

The 2019 Winter Universiade is due to take place from March 2 to 12.
