Rio 2016 silver medallist Yin Junhua claimed a split-decision win over The Philippines’ Nesthy Petecio today to book her place in the quarter-finals of the featherweight competition at the Asian Women's Boxing Championships in Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam.

The Chinese fighter, who came second to France’s Estelle Mossely in the lightweight division at last year’s Olympic Games, triumphed 3-2 over the 2014 world silver medallist.

Awaiting her in the last eight is home favourite Vy Vuong Thi, who eased to a unanimous points victory over Indonesia’s Christina Marwan Jembay at the Nguyen Du Indoor Stadium.

In the same weight division, India’s Sonia Lather defeated Japan’s Kana Kurogi 5-0.

China also had success in the light welterweight and light heavyweight categories today through Dou Dan and Yang Xiaoli respectively.

Dou stopped Taiwanese opponent Lin Lee Wei Hsien in the third round of their contest, while Yang beat India’s Pooja Rani in a unanimous verdict.

Action in Ho Chi Minh City is due to continue tomorrow.

The competition is the eighth edition of the event first held in Thailand's capital Bangkok in 2001.
