Pusarla V Sindhu won an 83-minute thriller against Nozomi Okuhara to secure the women's singles title at the Badminton World Federation Korea Open in Seoul today.

The India player battled through a crucial first set before losing the second.

She held her nerve to win the third, though, and seal a 22-20, 11-21, 21-18 victory to gain avenge for a similarly epic defeat in the final of last month's World Championships.

“It’s very special and very important,” said Sindhu.

“I couldn’t control the shuttle in the second game and she got a big lead.

"In the third set, even though I was ahead, she came back.

"There were some really long rallies, just like in the World Championships.

"I’d lost that final after leading 19-18 - but that wasn’t on my mind. I was going with the flow…"

Anthony Ginting had earlier claimed a similarly narrow victory over fellow Indonesian Jonatan Christie in the men's singles final.

The match, pitting together two unseeded players, was far lower in quality than the women's affair.

But, like Sindhu, Ginting also recovered from losing the second set to prevail 21-13, 19-21, 22-20 in 69 minutes.

Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen claimed a third Korea Open victory after outwitting Indonesians Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamulyo in the men's doubles.

The Danish duo triumphed 21-19 19-21 21-15 to follow victories in 2009 and 2014.

South Korea missed their only opportunity to win on a home court as Chang Ye Na and Lee So Hee were thrashed 21-11, 21-15 by China's Yu Xiaohan and Huang Yaqiong in the women's doubles final.

Indonesia’s Praveen Jordan and Debby Susanto captured the mixed doubles title after outclassing China’s Wang Yilyu and Huang Dongping, 21-17 21-18.
