India's Olympic silver medallist P.V Sindhu battled through to the semi-finals of the Badminton World Federation Korea Open in Seoul today.

Sindhu, who also won silver at last month's World Championships in Glasgow, needed to go the distance to win her last eight clash with Japan's Minatsu Mitani.

The Indian fifth seed came through to win 21-19, 16-21, 21-10 at the SK Handball Stadium.

She will now meet China's Youth Olympic Games champion He Bingjiao who ended home interest by defeating South Korea's third-ranked Sung Ji-hyun 21-19, 16-21, 21-19.

Japan's newly crowned world champion Nozomi Okuhara, who beat Sindhu in the Glasgow final, progressed after a 21-15, 21-10 win over Yip Pui Yin of Hong Kong.

In the men's competition, South Korea's world number one Son Wan-ho kept his hopes of victory alive at his home tournament.

He won his quarter-final with India's Sameer Verma, coming from behind to go through 20-22, 21-10, 21-13.

Unseeded Anthony Sinisuka Ginting will be the top seed's opponent in the last four, after his 21-19, 21-13 win over Japan's Kenta Nishimoto.

Seventh seed Wang Tzu-wei, the only other seed left in apart from Son, saw off Denmark's Hans-Kristian Vittinghus 21-11, 19-21, 21-14.

Jonatan Christie of Indonesia will be his last four opponent after his 21-13, 16-21, 21-19 win over Japan's Kazumasa Sakai.
