South Korea's U Cheol Park has been named as the International Paralympic Committee's (IPC) Allianz Athlete of the Month for August after his performance at the International Wheelchair Rugby Federation Asia-Oceania Championship.

The 18-year-old was central to the South Korean team, which was defeated by hosts New Zealand 44-41 in the bronze medal game in Auckland.

Park was named on the All Tournament Team in the 2.0 sport class and received the competition's most valuable player prize.

He received 61 per cent of the public votes in an online poll on the IPC's website.
