Top seeds Egypt won Pool A as the women's team event began at the World Squash Federation Junior Championships in New Zealand.

They won the three-team group by beating the host nation and Australia 3-0 at the Queen Elizabeth Youth Centre in Tauranga.

It means the two losing sides will clash tomorrow for a place in the quarter-finals.

In Pool B, which also features two teams, Malaysia saw off Germany 3-0.

They will progress to the last eight as group winners if they manage to see off Canada tomorrow.

Pools C and D both contain four teams.

Hong Kong and the United States both opened with 3-0 victories in Pool C, against South Korea and Ireland respectively.

The clash between the two countries tomorrow looks set to decide the pool winners.

In Pool D, England took command of the group after beating India and France 3-0.

India also beat South Africa 3-0, with the latter then beating the French 2-1.

Group play will continue tomorrow with the top two from each reaching the last eight.

The team event is following the singles tournaments, with Egypt’s Marwan Tarek and Rowan Reda Araby clinching the respective men’s and women’s crowns.
