Top seed Youssef Ibrahim of Egypt beat the United States’ Andrew Douglas today to book his place in the men’s semi-finals at the World Squash Federation Junior Championships in New Zealand.

Ibrahim took the last three points to claim an 11-4, 11-3, 10-12, 10-12, 11-9 victory in 53 minutes at the Devoy Squash and Fitness Centre in Tauranga.

He is due next to meet compatriot Marwan Tarek, who came from behind to beat India’s Abhay Singh 8-11, 11-4, 11-6, 11-6.

In the bottom half of the draw, second seed Mohammad Al Sarraj of Jordan defeated Egypt’s Mostafa Asal 11-8, 11-6, 11-6.

It sets up a semi-final with France’s Victor Crouin, the European champion, who overcame unseeded Egyptian Aly Hussein 11-8, 11-4, 11-4 in the opening match of the day.

The women’s quarter-finals started with an all-Egyptian encounter as Amina Yousry upset the odds to beat second seed Zeina Mickawy 12-10, 13-11, 11-8.

She faces another Egyptian opponent in the penultimate round after 2016 finalist Rowan Reda Elaraby prevailed 11-8, 11-13, 12-10, 9-11, 11-6 in a see-saw match against Malaysia’s Andrea Lee.

The top half of the draw featured two more five-game thrillers, one of which saw Japan’s Satomi Watanabe defeat America's Marina Stefanoni 13-15, 12-10, 11-8, 9-11, 11-4.

Top seed Hania El Hammamy of Egypt recovered from 2-1 down to beat Malaysia’s Sivasangari Subramaniam 11-9, 9-11, 6-11, 11-6, 11-1.

The semi-finals are due to take place tomorrow.
