Turkey's Erkan Esenboğa claimed two gold medals in judo to open the host nation's charge at the 23rd Summer Deaflympics in Samsun today.

He first teamed up with Abdullah Sevinç to win the team kata event.

The duo defeated Han Myeongjin and Choi Sun-hee of South Korea as Ukrainian duo Kateryna Shepeliuk and Vladislav Mozyrev took bronze.

Esenboğa then doubled the host nation's, and his personal, gold medal tally by winning the men's under-60 kilograms division.

He beat Armenian opponent Robert Gevorgyan in the final.

Bronze medals were taken by Mehrdad Bodaghi of Iran and Han of South Korea once again.

Other winners today included Russian shooter Dina Droganova.

She triumphed in the women's 50m rifle 3 positions event with a score of 452.5.

Melanie Stabel took German silver in 445.9.

Daria Bulavina ensured a second Russian podium finish with 429.9 for bronze.

More than 3,000 athletes from 97 countries are taking part at the premier event for deaf athletes in the Black Sea city.

They are competing in 20 sports - athletics, badminton, basketball, beach volleyball, bowling, road cycling, football, golf, handball, judo, karate, mountain bike, orienteering, shooting, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, volleyball and wrestling.
