Defending Fed Cup champions the Czech Republic have taken a gamble by selecting 17-year-old debutant Markéta Vondroušová in their squad for the crucial semi-final clash away in Florida this weekend.

Vondrousova, who has one Women's Tennis Association (WTA) title to her name, will be hoping to get her first-ever appearance in the Fed Cup off to the best possible start as she will take on Coco Vandeweghe in the opening singles rubber at the Saddlebrook Resort in Tampa tomorrow.

Her team-mate Katerina Siniakova is also due to be in singles action on the first day as she is scheduled to face Shelby Rogers.

In the doubles rubber, the US will be represented by Lauren Davis and Bethanie Mattek-Sands.

The pair will entertain Denisa Allertova and Kristyna Pliskova.

The Czech team, who are without Petra Kvitová after she was injured in a knife attack at her home in December, are unbeaten in their last 10 Fed Cup matches.

They have also played in six of the previous seven finals at the competition, while the US have reached the semi-finals for the first time since 2010.

Switzerland will play Belarus in the other last four encounter this weekend at the Chizhovka Arena in Minsk.

The host nation were boosted this week by news their star player, former world number one Victoria Azarenka, will be fit for the final should Belarus overcome the Swiss side.

Aliaksandra Sasnovich of Belarus has been drawn to face Swiss opponent Viktorija Golubic, while home player Aryna Sabalenka will go up against Timea Bacsinszky in the other singles match tomorrow.

Olga Govortsova and Vera Lapko have been chosen for Belarus in the doubles and they will play Belinda Bencic and 36-year-old veteran Martina Hingis, the five-time Grand Slam singles champion.

"Obviously I feel very privileged to be in this situation today and being part of this great team and part of the puzzle that is now in the semifinals here in Belarus," said Hingis.

"I would like to add another great experience to the career here this weekend and of course it would be great to win the Fed Cup - I wouldn’t say no to that."

Four World Group play-offs are also scheduled for this weekend.

France host Spain at the Halle André Vacheresse in Roanne, while Russia welcome Belgium for their play-off at the Small Sports Arena in Moscow.

The Porsche Arena in Stuttgart will host Germany's tie with the Ukraine and Slovakia take on The Netherlands at the AEGON Arena in Bratislava.
