Members of the United States National Poomsae team said it was an "honour" to demonstrate their sport during an event at the United Nations headquarters in New York City.

Alex Twu and Victoria Monina Dizon showed their skills to celebrate the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, which will be on April 6.

The World Taekwondo Federation had made a request to the US National Poomsae Team for a pairs freestyle performance at the event which was also attended by double Olympic gold medallist Jade Jones of Great Britain and world junior sparring champion Skylar Park of Canada.

Twu and Dizon are coached by Huy Nguyen, who said it was an “honour” to be part of the day.

“The event shared successful stories of how sports have enriched individual lives and brought peace and harmony to their community.

“As poomsae athletes and coaches, we all want to see poomsae in the Olympics one day.

“Until that day comes, we hope to see more opportunities like this that showcase world class athletes from both kyorugi and poomsae on the same stage.”

Other taekwondo representatives at the event included WTF President Chungwon Choue and the governing body’s secretary general Hoss Rafaty.

Members of the International Table Tennis Federation and International Fencing Federation also attended.

The event was held by the Peace and Sport organisation.

They aim to promote peace through the values of sport around the world.

The organisation are currently running the #WhiteCard campaign, encouraging Olympians to share a picture on social media with the hashtag to show their commitment to peace.
