Austrian skiers secured an emphatic one-two-three in the women's super-G race at the 2017 International Ski Federation Junior Alpine World Ski Championships in Åre in Sweden today.

Nadine Fest took the title in a time of 1 min 15.10 sec on her debut at this competition, to finish just over a second quicker than her closest rival Franziska Gritsch.

Gritsch was forced to settle for the silver medal with a time of 1:16.29 while Dajana Dengscherz rounded off the podium with her time of 1:16.40.

Another Austrian skier, Nina Ortlieb, narrowly missed out on the podium as she took fourth to cement her country's dominance in a time of 1:16.51.

”It was pretty cool, overall I think it was a good and powerful performance," said Fest.

"I’m really happy right now and I couldn’t believe I was in front by one second, it was unbelievable."

The men's super-G race was much more fiercely contested with less than one second separating the winner and 20th place, with only two-hundredths between the top three.

Raphael Haaser of Austria took second in 1:17.92, while Switzerland's Semyel Bissig completed the medal positions in a time of 1:17.93.

”It was icy and a bit bumpy too, but I did a pretty good run and it was cool,” Alphand said.

”There were a lot of turns and you have to really be strong and push for it.

"I did it and it paid off, it was a bit technical but a good super-G”.

Next on the competition's schedule is the women's Alpine combined event which is due to take place tomorrow.
