Fiji are expecting to send 215 athletes to the Vanuatu 2017 Mini Games, which will take place in December.

The country intend to compete across 13 sports at the Games, with their team set to be led by Chef de Mission Wayne O'Connor.

O’Connor revealed that his deputy for the event will be Pauline Morris, with Joseph Rodan and Chris Yee set to serve as general managers.

Sharlene Nand, a member of the Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee’s (FASANOC) Medical Commission, and team doctor Jone Nasome will also be part of the support staff.

There is expected to be a budget of around $4,500 (£3,600/€4,200) per athlete, with O’Connor expecting to meet with national federations to secure contributions.

“There is a participation amount levied on each sports and its fifteen hundreds.

“That money will trickle in overtime as mentioned in the forms of levies each quarter.

“All levies should be collected from participating federation before their departure."

It is expected that federations, who have athletes participating in the Games, will provide one third of the funds needed.

The remaining two thirds will be provided by FASANOC and the Government to cater for expenses.

The Games are due to take place from December 4 to 15.

Around 2,000 athletes from 24 teams are expected to participate.
