Kenny de Ketele and Moreno de Pauw of Belgium stormed into the lead at the Six Day Series event in Copenhagen with a clinical performance on day three.

The Belgian pairing, who currently occupy top spot in the overall Six Day Series leaderboard, now top the standings a score of 115 points and zero laps, with Lasse Norman Hansen and Michael Mørkøv of Denmark, the leaders after the first two days, slipping to third.

The Dutch team of Yoeri Havik and Wim Stroetinga, winners of the Six Day Berlin event, have moved into second place at the halfway stage of the competition at the Ballerup Super Arena.

Hansen and Mørkøv have a total of 169 points but are not yet out of contention for victory as they need just 31 to claw a lap back on the rest of the field.

Denmark’s Casper Folsach and Frederik Rodenberg started the day in style by winning their derny heat, while Australia’s Joshua Harrison and Melvin van Zijl of The Netherlands sealed two sprint triumphs.

De Ketele and De Pauw were second in their derny heat, before action in the 500m Madison time trial event had to be cancelled due to a fire alarm inside the arena.

When the riders returned, Folsach and Rodenberg concluded the afternoon session with victory in the 60-lap chase.

Havik and Stroetinga were among the sprint winners in the evening, along with the Danish duo of Marc Hester and Jesper Mørkøv.

A win in the elimination race for Hansen and Mørkøv appeared to put them out of sight but Havik and Stroetinga and de Ketele and de Pauw had other ideas.

The two pairings gained a lap in the 60-minute Madison, before Stroetinga outsprinted De Pauw to secure a thrilling triumph.

Poland's Wojtech Pszczolarski and Adrien Teklinski emerged victorious in the longest lap event, while there was also success for Alex Rasmussen and Casper Pedersen of Denmark in the 16-lap giant sprint.

Action in Copenhagen continues tomorrow.
