Olympic champion Eva Samkova claimed victory at the second leg of the International Ski Federation (FIS) Snowboard Cross World Cup season in Solitude in the United States.

The Czech, the gold medallist at the Sochi 2014 Games, triumphed at the Utah resort which was hosting the second leg of the campaign.

Heavy snow and wind forced organisers to postpone the start of the finals on several occasions but when action did get underway, Samkova controlled from the front.

"The first days were perfect but today was tricky," said Samkova.

"We almost didn't get up the hill because the traffic was crazy.

"But we made it and waited a little bit.

"Finally we were able to race.

"It was nice but everything was different compared to training and qualifiers.

"I'm really happy."

Italy's defending World Cup champion Michela Moioli came home second in the four-woman final, with Lindsey Jacobellis of the US grabbing bronze on home snow.

It means that Samkova is the new overall leader on 1450 points, with Australia's Belle Brockhoff, who won the opening leg of the series in Montafon in Austria, second on 1400.

Brockhoff could only finish sixth today.

Chloe Trespeuch of France is third overall with 1300 points.

In the men's final, Austria's Alessandro Hämmerle edged a close final in front of new overall leader Omar Visintin of Italy.

Alex Deibold of the US came home in third position.

"The day started pretty weird," said Hämmerle.

"It took us three hours to come up here but then it all ended up fine.

"Racing was tough.

"It was very difficult with the snow fall and wind."

Visintin has now finished second at both World Cup events this season and has 1600 points on top of the pile.

American Hagen Kearney, the winner in Montafon, is second on 1290 after finishing ninth in Solitude.

Hämmerle is now third on 1050.

Team events will conclude the Solitude World Cup tomorrow.
