Austrians Daniela Ulbing and Benjamin Karl claimed victory on home snow in the first International Ski Federation (FIS) Parallel Snowboard World Cup team event of the season in Bad Gastein.

The victory meant a double success for 18-year-old Ulbing, who won the women's individual slalom event held at the resort yesterday.

In team events, the second snowboarder sets off immediately after the first has finished.

Ulbing set the tone for the Austrian victory by winning against Switzerland's Olympic champion Patrizia Kummer in the final, with Karl successfully defending the lead in his race with Sochi 2014 silver medallist Nevin Galmarini.

"What happens right now is so cool," said Ulbing.

"I tried to open the door for Benjamin today in our heats, and that worked out fine.

"However, I never thought to drive home from Bad Gastein with two World Cup wins under my belt."

Karl finished 23rd in the individual event, a disappointment for the double Olympic medallist after he came into the event following two podium finishes.

"I made a mistake yesterday, and you know how it is with mistakes," said the quadruple world champion.

"They make you think too much so you end up thinking if you are still in shape in the New Year.

"I tried to stop this, and I was able to enjoy racing today which finally led to the win.

"I had a great team partner which made it easy for me to race.

"Today was a good redemption."

A second Austrian team claimed bronze as Claudia Riegler and Andreas Prommegger defeated Swiss duo Julie Zogg and Dario Caviezel.

The Parallel World Cup season will now continue in Rogla in Slovenia on January 28.
