Norway and Sweden will face-off for gold in the men's European Curling Championships after each winning their semi-finals today at the Braehead Arena near Glasgow in Scotland.

Defending champions Sweden battled to an 8-5 win over Russia in their playoff clash this evening.

Norway beat Switzerland by 7-4 in the other contest, meaning that Russia and the Swiss will have to be content with a place in tomorrow's bronze medal match.

The two finalists will their clash for gold on Saturday (November 26).

Czech Republic's women also qualified for their first European Championships play-offs today after beating Norway in their final round-robin encounter.

The team will join Russia, Scotland and Sweden in the semi-finals tomorrow afternoon.

Scores were level at 3-3 after six ends in Czech Republic's crucial clash with Norway before a superb four-point steal by skipper Anna Kubeskova in the seventh end.

Another point in the eighth sealed an 8-3 victory.

"It was a really tight game from the beginning until we stole four, which was the turning point," said Kubeskova.

"We then tried to hold the win. 

"We will try our best performance that we had here and hopefully we can get as far as possible."

Scotland completed a superb unbeaten round-robin phase on home ice with a 8-4 win over Russia.

Italy beat Finland 10-3 to consign the Finns to the B-Division in 2017. 

Switzerland also beat Germany 7-4. 

Scotland will now face Russia again in the semi-finals while Sweden will meet Czech Republic.
