Jason Moore, President and chief executive of Moore Sports International which spearheaded the North American bid, made the claim following the historic decision of the Rugby League International Federation (RLIF).

The governing body's Congress opted to take its flagship tournament to the continent for the first time in English city Liverpool last week.

Further evaluation and an inter-nations tournament between the 2021 and 2025 World Cups are the conditions of the award to North America.

"I thank the RLIF Board for their enthusiasm and vision for rugby league and in particular the tens of thousands of rugby league fans, in North America and around the globe, who gave us such strong support throughout this process," said Moore.

"This is a powerful statement for rugby league and its bright future in North America. 

"I also thank Moore Sports International's extraordinary team of people in the USA and Australia that worked tirelessly on a high quality and strategically well-constructed bid.

"We at Moore Sports International are all very excited by the challenges that lay ahead in presenting a great 2025 World Cup in USA and Canada."

The news on 2025 came after England were awarded the rights for the 2021 tournament last month, defeating the North American bid.

The US and Canada effort still received praise for its marketing, commercial support and innovation, as well as its support to extending the global reach of rugby league.

As a result, the RLIF Board decided to recommend to Congress that the two nations host the 2025 World Cup.
