Home favourite Porntip Buranaprasertsuk secured her place in the round two of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Thailand Open after beating Indonesia’s Hera Desi at the Nimibutr Stadium in Bangkok today. 

The number two seed eased to a 21-17, 21-18 victory and now faces an encounter with Malaysia’s Jin Wei Goh, a 21-15, 21-10 winner over Indonesia’s Hana Ramadhini.

Other home players through to the second stage include third seed Busanan Ongbamrungphan, who overcame Chinese Taipei’s Ling Fang Hu 21-12, 21-15, and fourth seed Nitchaon Jindapol, who came from behind to defeat Japan’s Sayaka Takahashi 20-22, 21-19, 21-11.

In the men’s singles event, number three seed Hsu Jen Hao won an all-Taiwanese clash with Wei Chi Liu 21-11, 21-12 to reach the third round.

Next up for him is due to be the 12th seed Wei Feng Chong of Malaysia, who beat Thailand’s Noppanai Singrueang 21-18, 21-19.

There was a surprise loss for the top seeds in the men’s doubles competition as Malaysia’s Kien Keat Koo and Boon Heong Tan fell to a 20-22, 21-19, 15-21 defeat at the hands of Japan’s Takuto Inoue and Yuki Kaneko.

The favourites for the mixed doubles crown also went crashing out with Thailand’s Bodin Isara and Savitree Amitrapai losing 21-11, 15-21, 20-22 against Chinese Taipei’s Tseng Min Hao and Ling Fang Hu.

Thailand’s Puttita Supajirakul and Sapsiree Taerattanachai, the women’s doubles top seeds, had no such trouble and comfortably overcame Indonesia’s Dini Fitri Alviani and Inten Ratnasari 21-4, 21-10.

The tournament, a Grand Prix Gold event, is due to conclude on Sunday (October 9) when the finals will take place.
