Great Britain's Levi Goodridge said hosting the country's National Championships at the London 2012 Copper Box venue was "great for the sport".

More than 900 competitors of all ages and abilities took part at the event between September 24 and 25, which was a record number for the tournament.

Twenty-year-old Goodridge defeated Kye Tompkins in the final of the under-87 kilogram weight division, to successfully retain his British title.

"It’s been great for the sport that we held the Championships at the Copper Box," said the GB Academy fighter.

“A lot more people were here this year so it was good for taekwondo all round.

“For me, I was closer to home this time.

"It was good my family were able to come down and watch me; some for the first time.

"Training has gone really well and I know when I am at my best I can win these gold medals."

During his time on the national junior squad, Levi has competed at a number of competitions.

He won both gold and silver medals at the British Open in 2009 and 2011, gold at the 2013 Spanish Open and bronzes at both the Dutch and German Opens in 2013.
