The Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Bahrain Institute of Banking and Finance (BIBF) for training and development.

The document was signed by BOC general secretary Abdulrahman Askar and BIBF deputy director Ahmed Al Shaikh at the National Olympic Committee’s offices in the Seef District of Bahrain.

It is hoped the agreement will help improve the skills and knowledge of those working within the BOC.

As part of the MoU, the two organisations will also work towards collaboration on further projects and activities in the gulf nation, with a focus on training BOC officials and staff.

"This MOU would serve to strengthen our employee’s level of competencies, which leads to a magnified organisational performance,” said Askar to the Gulf News Journal.

The BOC general secretary also discussed the integral role the BIBF, which was established in 1981, can play in the training and development of employees in Bahrain.

He believes they can help create a “leading excellence” feeling within the various employment sectors in the Kingdom.

“BIBF is proud to be a partner of the BOC’s investment in its Human Capital and looking forward to witness the valuable returns,” Al Shaikh said.

“This is in line with BIBF’s strategy to continue being a pioneer in providing excellent training and development for the human capital in kingdom of Bahrain and the region.”

The agreement between the two organisations was signed following the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, which concluded with the Closing Ceremony at the Maracanã Stadium on August 21, where Bahrain claimed their first-ever gold medal.

Ruth Jebet powered to victory with a dominant display in the women’s 3,000 metres steeplechase to etch her name into the history books.

The Kingdom also clinched an Olympic silver thanks to Eunice Kirway, who finished second in the women’s Marathon.

Bahrain sent a team of 35 athletes, who competed across four sports - athletics, shooting, swimming and wrestling.
