The award for voluntary work was named after Shaikh Khalifa, the second vice-chairman of Bahrain’s Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and a BOC honorary president.

Shaikh Isa has been credited by the BOC as being one of the founders of the country's sports movement on a national, regional and continental level.

He was among the key figures and invited guests who were present for the ceremony, along with Shaikh Khalid, who is also the President of the Bahrain Athletics Association.

Shaikh Nasser, who opened the event, was congratulated by BOC general secretary Abdulrahman Askar during the evening for being named as the President of the higher commission for financial cooperation and coordination in the country.
