Britain’s Rachel Atherton will aim to complete a perfect International Cycling Union (UCI) Mountain Bike World Cup season by winning the final the downhill event in Vallnord in Andorra tomorrow.

The 28-year-old has already secured the overall and will be looking to extend her run of 12 straight World Cup victories, a run stretching back to last year’s season.

Atherton will be returning the venue where she claimed the world title last year, with the event coming just days before she will attempt to defend her crown in Val di Sole, where the World Championships are due begin next Tuesday (September 6).

Her fellow Briton Manon Carpenter will look to secure second place in the overall World Cup standings, with Australia’s Tracey Hannah and another British rider, Tahnee Seagrave, also seeking podium spots.

The United States’ Aaron Gwin will go in search of his third downhill World Cup win of the season in Vallnord.

He has been forced to settle for second at the last two events in Lenzerheide and Mont-Sainte-Anne respectively, with Britain’s Danny Hart topping the podium on both occasions.

The duo will go head-to-head again, with the overall title remaining up for grabs.

The men’s cross-country event will see France’s two-time Olympic champion Julien Absalon look to preserve his position at the top of the standings.

His nearest rival Nino Schurter will come into the competition on a high, with the Swiss star having secured the Olympic gold medal in the men’s mountain bike competition at Rio 2016 last month.

Sweden’s Jenny Rissveds, the newly crowned women’s Olympic champion, will begin the final World Cup of the season top of overall standings.
