The Venezuelan Olympic Committee (COV) has designed an Olympic rings-based physical activity project, which is set to be unveiled at the Olympic Village in Rio de Janeiro.

Approved by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and initiated by COV President Eduardo Álvarez, the project brought together a group of Venezuelan athletes and technicians to develop a leisure and training system incorporating the Olympic rings.

Members of Venezuela’s men’s épée team, including Rubén Limardo and Kelvin Cañas, have already tried out the exercise.

Limardo won épée gold at London 2012, beating Norway’s Bartosz Piasecki in the final.

His medal was the only one Venezuela won at the Games and ended the country's 44-year wait for a second Olympic title.

Boxer Francisco Rodríguez won their first gold medal at Mexico 1968, topping the podium in the men’s light flyweight division.

Limbardo will be looking to defend his Olympic crown at Rio 2016 as Venezuela make their 18th consecutive appearance at the Summer Games.

He will serve as flagbearer for the 87-strong delegation.
