The 2018 and 2019 European Fencing Championships have been awarded to Serbian city Novi Sad and Luxembourg respectively, it has been announced.

The chosen hosts were confirmed at the European Fencing Confederation’s Congress in Toruń, where this year’s edition is currently taking place.

More than 400 fencers from 40 countries are expected to compete across épée, foil and sabre events, as well as the team competitions, during the week-long championships in Poland, due to end on Saturday (June 25).

It is the 29th edition of the senior event, which was first held in Foggia in Italy in 1981.

Other events to be awarded at the Congress were the 2018 Junior and Cadets Championships and Under-23 European Championships with Slovakia’s capital Bratislava set to host the former and Armenia’s capital Yerevan the latter.
