Lukas Hinder has been officially elected as President of the World DanceSport Federation (WDSF).

The Swiss had already been serving in the job since January after he took over from Spaniard Carlos Freitag, who resigned due to health reasons.

He has now been elected to a one-year term of office after running for the role unopposed.

His majority was said to be "overwhelming", the WDSF said, with the election taking place at the organisation's Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Rome.

In addition, Jim Fraser and Tommy Shaughnessy were elected with big majorities to the roles of first vice president and presidium member respectively.

Both also ran unopposed and will serve one-year terms.

All three officials were voted in using a secret ballot, although Shaughnessy was not present in the Italian capital after his mother passed away.

Hinder met with International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach in April, where he outlined his vision for the sport.

Elsewhere at the meeting, delegates unanimously approved the work the WDSF has carried out in the year since the last AGM in Granada in Spain.

This came via a motion presented by Leena Liusvaara, the President of the Finnish DanceSport Federation.

"Our Federation is strongly led by a Presidium that is exceptional in its talents and exceptional in its dedication to our sport and to each of our countries," she said.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, I believe that this Presidium has served us well."
