The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) has announced that a record 12 teams will compete in this season’s 3x3 PREMIER.EXE league, Japan’s premier competition for the discipline.

It marks an increase from the eight that competed in the 2015 edition, won by GREEDYDOG.EXE.

The expansion of the league comes despite the fact the reigning champions will not be back this year to defend their title.

For the first time, one of the teams will be based outside of Japan with South Korea’s WILL.EXE set to take part.

Agleymina.EXE is expected to boast a roster including four Indian players, led by Amjyot Singh.

The 24-year-old was the top points scorer at the 2015 FIBA Asia Championship, better than former NBA players such as American- Filipino Andray Blatche, China’s Jianlian Li and Iran’s Hamed Ehadadi.

Several American and European players will make their first appearance at the 3x3 PREMIER.EXE this year, including Slovenia's world number 27 player Luka Snoj, who has been hired by TACHIKAWA DICE.EXE.

The league, now in its third season, will also continue to feature some of the best home-grown talents with last year's Most Valuable Player Tomoya Ochiai joining BREX.EXE.

"The Worm" is a member of an exclusive group of 12 players who have played in all four editions of the FIBA 3x3 World Tour.

Japan’s number one player Kenji Hilke will lead TRYHOOP OKAYAMA.EXE, while legendary compatriot Keita Suzuki has signed with DIME.EXE.

The league, which features eight events across Japan, is due to start across two days on June 11 and 12 and end on September 10 and 11 in Tokyo.

Two tickets to the number one 3x3 event in the world - the FIBA 3x3 World Tour - will be awarded at the 3x3 PREMIER.EXE.

The league leaders after the fourth event in Nagoya, from July 17 to 18, will qualify for the Utsumomiya Masters, scheduled to take place from July 30 to 31.

The league winners at the end of the season will make it to the Beijing Masters from September 16 to 17.

The 3x3 PREMIER.EXE is organised by X Sports Marketing, the same group which will manage the Utsunomiya Masters.
