Emad Almalki triumphed in an all Saudi Arabian final on day two of the World Karate Federation (WKF) Karate 1 World Cup in Laško in Slovenia.

He triumphed over compatriot Saud Albasher in the men's under 60kg kumite to win his country a first gold medal of the competition.

The division's bronzes were collected by Algeria's Mohammed Benathmane and Oley Flipovych of Ukraine.

Elsewhere, Austria added to Alisa Buchinger's women's under 68kg title yesterday as Stefan Pokorny won the men's under 67kg class.

He secured victory in the final against Nenad Kelebic of Macedonia, with Stefan Joksic of Serbia and Hungarian Martial Yves Tadisssi doing enough for the bronzes.

Macedonia were not to be denied a gold as women's under 50kg competitor Sara Radicevska took home the title.

The silver medallist was beaten finalist Jelena Milivojcevic of Serbia, while Bettina Plank of Austria and Ukrainian Kateryna Kryva won the category's bronzes.

In the women's under 55kg, Montenegro were celebrating thanks to Ana Draskovic who defeated Valeria Kumizaki of Austria for gold.

Viktoria Semanikova of Slovakia took home bronze, as did Serbia's Teodora Rankovic.

The third Karate 1 Premier League event of the season will now be held in Rotterdam in The Netherlands on March 19 and 20.
