Americans Phil Dalhausser and Nick Lucena beat home pairing Evandro Goncalves and Pedro Solberg to win the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) Maceió Open.

The second seeds, playing in a World Tour gold medal match for the seventh-time in their last eight international starts, triumphed 21-19, 19-21, 15-10 in a closely fought affair.

The Brazilians were the top seeds but the US pairing out-lasted them in the 55 minute contest.

Dalhausser and Lucena have now won three of the seven finals they have played in since reuniting as partners in August.

Their only non-podium was a fifth-place at the Polish Grand Slam in Olsztyn at the end of that month while they claimed open titles in Xiamen in China and Puerto Vallarta in Mexico.

"The first two sets were totally different with us playing well in the first and the Brazilians in control in the second,” said Dalhausser, won won Beijing 2008 Olympic gold with Todd Rogers.

Only legendary Brazilians Emanuel Rego, who has 77 titles, and Ricardo Santos, who boasts 56, have more men’s individual World Tour competitions than Dalhausser who has won on 31 occasions.

In the bronze medal contest, Saymon Barbosa and Gustavo Carvalhaes of Brazil, who had been beaten by their compatriots in the last four, won 21-18, 25-23 against another Brazilian pair, Vitor Felipe and Alvaro Filho. 

The FIVB World Tour will continue between March 8 and 13 on Rio de Janeiro's Copacabana Beach.

The first grand slam of the 2015/16 beach volleyball calendar will take place at the venue for August's Olympic competition.
