Spanish medallists at this year's Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro are set to receive a financial reward three times the amount their compatriots received at London 2012.

The decision was taken by the Spanish Paralympic Committee (CPE) at its General Assembly, where a motion to boost the payments to the athletes as part of their 2016 budget was approved.

Gold medallists at London 2012 received €10,000 (£7,500/$11,000) from the CPE, an amount similar to that awarded to their Paralympic champions at Beijing 2008.

Should an athlete win gold at Rio 2016, however, they would now be in line to receive €30,000 (£22,416/$32,646).

Silver medallists, meanwhile, are now due to receive €15,000 (£11,000/$16,000) compared to the €5,000 (£4,000/$5,500) they were given four-years ago.

Finally, bronze medallists are now set to be awarded a sum of $9,000 (£7,000/$10,000).

The Spanish team claimed a total of eight gold medals, 18 silver and 16 bronze at London 2012 to finish 17th overall on the medals table.

The General Assembly, chaired by CPE President Miguel Carballeda, also decided that their team would wear a different kit to the athletes representing the country at the Olympic Games.

The move is dependent upon the CPE being able to reaching a satisfactory agreement with their kit supplier, however.

Spanish Blind Sports Federation chief Angel Luis Gomez, Sports Physically Disabled President Jose Alberto Alvarez and Julian Redondo, President of the Spanish Association of Sports Press, were among the key officials present at the Assembly.
