British Athletics have announced that 34 athletes have been invited to join their 2015-2016 Futures Programme, including six gold medallists from this year’s European Junior Championships and all three medallists from the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Youth Championships.

Bobby Clay, who is coached by 1994 Commonwealth Games 5,000 metres champion Rob Denmark, triumphed in the women's 1,500m at the European Junior Championships which took place in Eskilstuna, Sweden from July 16 to 19.

The 18-year-old will now join the Futures Programme, which is designed to support athletes and their coaches and underpins the World Class Performance Programme (WCPP) for Olympic level athletes.

Clay will be joined on the programme by Josh Kerr and Alex George, who won men’s 1,500m and 5,000m gold in Sweden, in addition to 200m sprint champion Tommy Ramdhan.

Cheriece Hylton and Charlotte McLennaghan claimed gold medals as part of Britain’s successful relay teams at the meet and have also been included, while World Championship bronze medal winning sprinters Rechmial Miller and Catherine Reid and discus thrower George Evans have also been included.

“The Futures Programme seeks to support the next generation of champions and their coaches,” said Jo Summers, British Athletics development manager.

“With 38 graduates of the Futures programme now on the WCPP, we aim to support the current cohort of athletes and coaches with financial assistance and medical support which can help towards following in the footsteps of athletes such as Dina Asher-Smith, Georgie Hermitage and Matthew Hudson-Smith.

“Next year is a key year in the development of these athletes as they aim to make the step up with London 2017 [IAAF and International Paralympic Committee World Championships] and Tokyo 2020 on the horizon.

“By supporting athlete-coach pairs, it allows for flexibility and individual discretion around distribution of resources, which will benefit the sport in these future years.”

Sprinters Hannah Brier, Joseph Dewar, Toby Harries, David King, Elliott Powell, Leon Reid, Thomas Somers and Jack Crosby have also been included on the list, in addition to fellow track stars Theo Blundell, Amy Griffiths, Adelle Tracey, Rhianwedd Price, Callum Wilkinson and Shaun Wyllie.

Taylor Campbell, Jacob Fincham-Dukes, David Hall, Harry Hughes and Montel Nevers are the field athletes on the programme.

Para-Futures is incorporated into the programme with eight Paralympic hopefuls having been invited to join,  including International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports (IWAS) World Games athletes Molly Kingsbury, James Arnott and Nathan Maguire, with the list completed by Callum Hall, Paul Davidson and Pani Mamuneas.
