Norway made it six wins out of six at the World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship after recording victories against Latvia and Slovenia on day four.

The Norwegian duo of Kristin Skaslien and Magnus Nedregotten overcame Latvia 13-3, the biggest win of the morning session, before inflicting a 12-1 defeat on Slovenia.

It was a different story for previously undefeated Sweden however as they lost 8-2 to Scandinavian neighbours Finland, and were beaten by China, 7-6, after an extra end.

Finland went on to lose 6-3 against Italy in the afternoon session, while China preceded their victory with a 9-2 win against Austria.

Sweden, Finland and China are all tied for second place with four wins out of six, along with Italy, who picked up an 8-7 win against New Zealand in the morning session, and Latvia, who bounced back from their defeat against Norway to beat winless Brazil 10-4.

Meanwhile in Group A, hosts Russia took a single point in the last end to win 6-5 against Japan and keep intact their unbeaten record, which was extended further with a 8-3 success against Slovakia.

The United States got back on track following their loss to Russia yesterday, beating the Czech Republic 6-3 having earlier only needed six ends to win 9-1 against France.

Turkey also claimed back-to-back victories, stealing two points in each of the last two ends to win 10-9 against Denmark, and one point in the last end to triumph 6-5 against defending champions Switzerland.

Australia sit at the bottom of the standings and are still looking for their first win after losing 7-3 to Slovakia and 9-1 to Japan.

Japan find themselves in joint third place with Denmark, who beat France 8-3 in the afternoon session, and the two teams are closely followed by Switzerland, who preceded their loss to Turkey by defeating the Czech Republic 10-4.

As for Group C, Canada lost their 100 per cent winning record as they were beaten 9-5 by Scotland.

"We got off to a good start and then just kept the play going, kept putting on the pressure,” said Scotland’s Judith McCleary.

“We got our weight quite good and our line good, so all around a good game for us.

“We always want to do well, especially against Canada who were undefeated before this and have had some big wins.”

South Korea also saw their undefeated run halted by Estonia, who joined their opponents and Canada at the top of the table with an 8-5 win.

Hungary complete a four way tie at the summit after winning 10-7 against Belarus, while Spain’s 6-2 win against Poland keeps them hot on the tails of the frontrunners.

The group’s other game saw England claim their second win of the Championship, defeating Romania 11-3.

The round-robin action is due to continue here tomorrow.
