Members of the Sochi 2014 Canadian Paralympic squad will be honoured at the Canadian Paralympic Awards in Toronto this week ©AFP/Getty ImagesThe Canadian Paralympic Sports Awards are set to take place in Toronto this week, where the performance of Canadian athletes at the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games will be recognised.

The awards ceremony will take place at the Eaton Chelsea Hotel in Toronto on Friday (September 19) and will celebrate top athletes and coaches and recognise their achievements over the past year, particularly at Sochi 2014.

Canada finished third on the medals table in Sochi winning seven gold, two silver and seven bronze medals.

Visually impaired cross-country skier Brian McKeever was the standout performer for the country, taking three gold medals, with Alpine sit-skier Josh Dueck, Nordic sit-skier Chris Klebl, visually impaired Alpine skier Mac Marcoux and the wheelchair curling team of Jim Armstrong, Ina Forrest, Sonja Gaudet, Mark Ideson and Dennis Thiessen also topping their respective podiums.

In addition, Dueck added silver in the men's downhill sitting event, while Mark Arendz took silver and bronze in Nordic skiing events.

There were also Alpine skiing bronze medals for Caleb Brousseau, Kimberly Joines and Chris Williamson, while the ice sledge hockey squad also took home bronze from Sochi.

Dueck, who was the Canadian Flagbearer at the Sochi 2014 Closing Ceremony will co-present the awards ceremony alongside Team Canada Chef de Mission for the Toronto 2015 Parapan American Games, Elisabeth Walker-Young.

Canadian Paralympic Committee President Gaétan Tardif and chief executive Karen O'Neill will be joined at the awards by Canadian Minister for Sport Bal Gosal.

There will be six award categories up for decision on the day - Best Games Debut, Best Team Performance, Best Male Athlete, Best Female Athlete, Para-Development Coach and the Tim Frick Paralympic Coach Excellence Award.
