The IOC Coordination Commission has begun a three-day visit to Pyeongchang to learn of the progress being made ahead of the 2018 Winter Games ©Pyeongchang 2018April 29 - The International Olympic Committee (IOC) Coordination Commission has begun a three-day visit to Pyeongchang as the South Korean city continues to prepare for the 2018 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Led by IOC Executive Board member Gunilla Lindberg, chair of the Coordination Commission, the visit sees Commission members joined by the Presidents and secretary generals of all seven of the winter International Federations, as the spotlight moves to South Korea after the conclusion of Sochi 2014.

The visit, the third meeting of the IOC Coordination Commission since the South Korean city were awarded the Games in Durban in July 2011, began today with a general meeting between the Commission, the Federations and members of the Pyeongchang 2018 Organising Committee, as they discussed areas of preparations that are key to the smooth running of the Games.

These areas include services to the athletes, National Olympic Committees, International Federations and media, as well as progress with venues and infrastructure, transport, marketing, legacy, education, technology, culture and the Paralympic Games.

Tomorrow will see delegates visit a number of the venues and facilities across the mountain cluster and coastal cluster, including the sliding centre, the Olympic Villages, the International Broadcast Centre and Main Press Centre, ice hockey 1, the curling centre; the speed skating venue and the figure skating and short track venue.

The visit is due to conclude on Thursday (May 1) with a press conference here, where the media will be given a detailed report on progress.
