Kim Jin-sun has been re-elected as President of Pyeongchang 2018October 11 - Kim Jin-sun has been re-elected to serve a second term as President of Pyeongchang 2018 at the Olympic and Paralympic Organising Committee's sixth general assembly in Seoul today.

The meeting, which was attended by the majority of Pyeongchang 2018 members including Gangwon Province Governor Choi Moon-soon, Education, Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee chairman Shin Hak Yong, Special Committee on PyeongChang Winter Olympics and International Sporting Events chair Kim Jae Yun and Korean Olympic Committee Honorary President Y S Park, also approved the re-appointment of secretary general Moon Donghoo.

Following his re-election, Kim pledged a number of key initiatives to ensure the successful hosting of the 2018 Winter Games.

"First of all, I will make sure that all infrastructures, such as venues, transportation networks and other related facilities, are completed on time as planned," he said.

"POCOG [the Pyeongchang 2018 Organising Committee] will devise a plan to make its 2018 Winter Games an all-inclusive and far-reaching festival, which will set PyeongChang apart from other previous Games."

He also outlined plans for culture, environment and sports schemes aimed at "realising an athlete-orientated Olympic Games" and promised to establish "concrete goals" under the "New Horizons" vision.

"The newly-instated committee will work with experts and scholars-alike to ensure that the principles and traditions of the Olympic Movement are reflected in Pyeongchang's operation plan," Kim explained.

"We will seek wisdom to identify the kind of legacy we want Pyeongchang to leave behind, as well as how best to achieve it."

Kim added that detailed plans for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, promotional strategies, event schedules, IT systems and volunteer recruitment will be released early next year.

Key figures in the nation's Paralympic Movement, including the heads of the Korea Adaptive Ski Association, the Korea Ice Hockey Association for the Disabled and the Korea Wheelchair Curling Association were also added as new members of Pyeongchang 2018 at the general assembly.
