December 3 - DB Schenker Logistics UK has been appointed the official logistics provider for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, organisers have announced.
DB Schenker, part of the Transport and Logistics Division of Deutsche Bahn AG, will provide warehouse space, warehouse operations including staff and equipment, and freight transportation services for the event.
This will represent the third Commonwealth Games that DB Schenker has been appointed as the official logistics partner, following Manchester 2002 and Melbourne 2006.
DB Schenker's global operations sees the company operating in more than 130 countries with 2,000 offices worldwide.
"We are delighted to have DB Schenker join our sponsor family," said Ty Speer, Glasgow 2014 deputy chief executive.
"They have a strong track record in major multi-sports events including two previous Commonwealth Games.
"Their local presence in Scotland is an important factor as it means they know the operating environment here in Glasgow to ensure all requirements are delivered in full and on time."
The company has worked with the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) since 2004 and has recently extended its agreement to provide logistics, freight forwarding and customs clearance services for the Sochi 2014 and Rio 2016 Games.
The UK arm of the company operates in 15 locations around the country and has more than 730 employees.
"We are very proud to be the official logistics provider to Glasgow 2014," said Helgi Ingolfsson, chief executive of Schenker Ltd.
"We have a strong association with the Commonwealth Games having been the official provider at Manchester 2002 and Melbourne 2006 so it is exciting for our team to once again work with the Commonwealth Games.
"Our team here in the UK is committed to provide logistics support and services at all times ensuring that Glasgow 2014 will always fulfil its tactical priorities."
