DB Schenker has agreed a four year extension to its contract with the IPC ©Getty ImagesNovember 18 - DB Schenker has extended its agreement with the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) to provide logistics, freight forwarding and customs clearance services throughout Sochi 2014 and Rio 2016.


DB Schenker has been working with the IPC since Athens 2004 and will offer its services at a number of other key events in the period leading up to Rio 2016.

"We are pleased to have DB Schenker further develop the logistics service offering to the IPC and our NPC's," said Xavier Gonzalez, the IPC's chief executive.

"Consistent quality logistics services continue to be a major planning and operational requirement across our events."

The German company, based in Bonn, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn with its main focus on logistics and transportation.

The company employs over 94,600 in around 130 and is now the biggest freight operator in the UK after buying out English Welsh and Scottish Railway (EWS).

"We are pleased to develop further the relationship with the IPC, as their Official Logistics Supplier," said Heiner Murmann, Member of the Board of Management, responsible for air and ocean freight at Schenker.

"We are committed to provide logistics concepts, support and services at all times, ensuring that the IPC will always fulfil its strategic priorities.

"While thousands of athletes are already training hard for the Paralympic Games in Sochi 2014, our logistics preparations are also in full swing, making sure that the IPC will reach their goals."
