Three-time Paralympic gold medallist Justin Zook was also named on the 25-strong squad announced by US Paralympics, a division of the United States Olympic Committee (USOC), to attend the event, which will be the first major competition in the sport since last year's Paralympics when it is due to take place in Montreal on August 11 until 17.

"In Montreal, US Paralympics will be represented by both seasoned and up and coming, extremely talented athletes," said Queenie Nichols, the USOC's high performance director for Paralympic swimming.

"While we look forward to our veteran athletes continuing the momentum of Team USA's 41-medal performance at the recent Paralympic Games, there are many new athletes who will be starting their legacy this season.

"Team USA is a mixture of today's best Paralympic swimmers and the faces of the future, which will make for a truly exciting IPC Swimming World Championships."


Athletes were selected to compete in Canada based on their performances at the 2013 US Paralympics Spring Swimming National Championships/2013 Spring CanAm, during which three Americans set five world records, including two for Silverman and Kayla Wheeler.

Silverman set the world record in the men's S10 800 and 1,500 metres freestyle, while Wheeler swam a world record 1:37.34 in the women's S1 50m butterfly preliminary race then bested that in the final with a 1:30.57.

The American's will be hoping for a strong performance at this year's World Championships after their exceptional performance at London 2012, where they had 18 swimmers win a combined 41 medals, including eight for Long, who was named the USOC's Paralympic Sportswoman of the Year.

Team USA won 57 medals, including 20 gold, 18 silver and 19 bronze, at the 2010 IPC Swimming World Championships in Eindhoven, Netherlands.
