The capital of the Bolívar Department, which regularly hosts Pan-American Triathlon Confederation (PATCO) races, and will this year stage the Triathlon Pan American Cup and Central American and Caribbean Championships, will serve as the ninth of 10 stops when it holds the ITU competition on October 11 and 12.

"The development of triathlon in South America is very important," said ITU President Marisol Casado, who is also an International Olympic Committee (IOC) member.

"It's critical we hold World Cup races in the Americas to ensure its elite athletes have high-level competitions in which to develop, so we are very happy to add Cartagena to the lineup."
