Despite taking the only race win of the day, Australian Matthew Wearn missed out on the top 10 and tomorrow's medal race, but the men who finished second and third in today's outing, German Phillipp Buhl and Nick Thompson of Great Britain, remain right in the hunt.

Buhl sits fourth overall, while Thompson leads the chasing pack in second behind Tom Burton of Australia, who remains out in front after a solid seventh in today's race.

"My race was not too bad," said Thompson.

"I got round the first mark in fourth but I got myself kind of stitched up on the second beat when I missed a persistent right shift and dropped to seventh.

"That could be costly but it was not a too bad race anyway."

Dutchman Nicholas Heiner sits third overall while nine-time world champion Robert Scheidt of Brazil lies sixth and remains in contention for a podium place.

London 2012 silver medallist Marit Bouwmeester of The Netherlands tops the standings in the Laser Radial class going into the medal race as a 12th place finish was enough to see her remain in control by 10 points.

Veronika Kozelska Fenclova of the Czech Republic currently occupies the silver medal position ahead of Swede Josefin Olsson, while today's race winner Evi Van Acker of Belgium put herself right in the mix and moves up to fourth.

Peter Burling and Blair Tuke continue to lead the way in the 49er competition as they head into the gold fleet races after recording another win and a fourth on the Spanish coast.

Two thirds for Denmark's Jonas Warrer and Anders Thomsen has them sitting 10 points behind the leaders, while Australia's Nico Dell Karth and Nikolaus Resch are right on the tails of the Danes in third place overall.

In the 49erFX there is a three-way tie at the top of the standings as Britain's Charlotte Dobson and Sophie Answorth took the only race win of the day to join Martine Grael and Kahena Kunze of Brazil and Danish duo Ida Marie Baad Nielsen and Marie Thusgaard Olsen at the head of the pack.

Due to a lack of wind, 49erFX qualification is scheduled to be completed tomorrow.

After only managing to get one race in so far in Santander, the Finn class roared back into life and it was dominated by two men from Britain as Giles Scott and Ed Wright shared five race wins between them.

Scott powered his way to three wins-from-three to open up a six point lead in the standings after adding to his opening day win earlier in the week.

Wright put together back-to-back wins to leave him lying third overall behind Frenchman Jonathan Lobert, who picked up a second and fourth in the day's final two races after encountering some problems in race one.

"In the first race I had a double capsize," explained Lobert, who won bronze at London 2012.

"I had a great start, but it was very shifty and very turbulent so it wasn't easy.

"I was top 10 at the first mark so that was okay. I made a mistake downwind.

"One big gust came and I was surprised and capsized by the lee.

"It took me a while to get the boat up and I capsized again at the downwind mark.

"So I was full of water and it was race over for me."

After two wins in their opening races, Americans Stuart McNay and David Hughes remain atop the men's 470 leaderboard despite recording only a 12th place finish today.

Greece's Panagotis Mantis and Pavlos Kagialis took the race win to move up to third overall, while Croatian duo Sime Fantela and Igor Marenic lie second after a third in today's outing.

There was only one race completed in the women's 470 class also and it was won by Austria's Lara Vadlau and Jola Ogar,  just ahead of Brazil's Renata Decnop and Isabel Swan, with Japan's Ai Kondo Yoshida and Miho Yoshioka coming in third.

The Austrian duo leapfrogged to the top of the leaderboard as a result with French duo Camille Lecointre and Helene Defrance in second ahead of London 2012 silver medallists Hannah Mills and Saskia Clark of Britain.

Reigning Olympic and world champions Jo Aleh and Polly Powrie of New Zealand lie in fifth place.

France lead the way in the men's and women's RS:X competitions.

Julien Bontemps picked up his third win of the Championships to lead Poland's Piotr Myszaka and Przemyslaw Miarczynski in the men's standings.

A best finish of third was enough to see Charline Picon maintain control of the women's class ahead of Israeli Maayan Davidovich and Marina Alabau of Spain, who both picked up wins today.

There was no racing possible in the Nacra 17 class.
