Gabby Douglas has led a world recording breaking simultaneous cartwheel performance on Pittsburgh's Roberto Clemente Bridge ©Getty ImagesGabby Douglas, the United States artistic gymnast who won two gold medals at the London 2012 Olympics, has led a world record-breaking simultaneous cartwheel performance on Pittsburgh's Roberto Clemente Bridge.

The all around and team champion joined gymnasts from 14 clubs in the Pittsburgh area to set the world record for simultaneous cartwheels at 735, smashing the previous record of 482 that was set on July 9, 2009, in Schothorst in ThenNetherlands.

"I've been working hard to get that cartwheel," Douglas joked.

The event, attended by two-time Olympic basketball medallist Suzie McConnell-Serio and USA Gymnastics chief operating officer and former gymnast Ron Galimore, took place as part of the Pennsylvanian city's Olympic Day celebrations and was used to promote this year's P&G Gymnastics Championships taking place at the Consol Energy Centre between August 21 and 24.

USA Gymnastics also used the occasion to announce that both the 1984 and 2004 national men's and women's gymnastics Olympic teams for will be recognised during the Championships.

Today's celebration is just one of many more Olympic Day celebrations taking place in more than 800 communities across the US from June 14 to 30.
