The FIG Appeal Tribunal has upheld the disciplinary proceedings against "irregularities" at a judges' course ©FIGNovember 14 - The International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) Appeal Tribunal has ruled to uphold the original decision made earlier this year by its Disciplinary Commission against "irregularities" discovered at a judges' course in February.

The Tribunal, made up of President George Stewart, and members Renata Loss Campana and Thore Brolin, confirmed the FIG decisions to annul results obtained by Dragos Birzu at the men's artistic gymnastics international judges' course held in Bucharest in February.

Istvan Karacsony, examiner for the course and a former member of the Men's Artistic Gymnastics Technical Panel, remains suspended from any FIG or international events in any capacity until December 31, 2014.

The Appeal Tribunal did, however, grant his appeal against the ruling to strip him of his FIG honorary membership.

The decisions taken by the FIG may now be appealed within 21 days to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

Meanwhile, the FIG Disciplinary Commission has also met following a hearing and decided to annul all results obtained at the course.

"The judges who attended said course may attend another course and participate in a further examination to renew (or obtain, as the case may be) their Brevets for the current cycle," a statement said.

The Commission also handed coaches Dănuț Grecu, an Olympic bronze medallist at Montreal 1976 and former world champion, and Mirzea Dumitru Apolzan six and 12 month bans, respectively, from any FIG or other international activities in any capacity.

Furthermore, Grecu is responsible for a third of the costs of the proceedings, while Apolzan is responsible for two thirds.

Both parties now have 21 days to submit an appeal against the decisions to the FIG Appeals Tribunal should they wish to do so.
