Tiger Woods and MusclePharm have announced a new sponsorship agreement ©Getty Images Tiger Woods has signed a multi-year deal with sports nutrition firm MusclePharm that will see the company's logo adorn the bag of the world's number one golfer from July 1.

The 14-time major winner is also set to feature in advertisements for MusclePharm, make appearances at events and support the brand through social media promotion as part of the deal.

There is also a provision that could see Woods develop his own line of products with MusclePharm.

"It's a cool company," said Woods' agent at Excel Sports Management Mark Steinberg.

"We talked to these guys at MusclePharm a couple of years ago and didn't have availability.

"The attraction is they're a company about the athlete and helping the athlete perform better.

"When people think about Tiger, he was one of the first athletes in the sport of golf.

"Now it seems that everybody is an athlete.

"That resonated a bit with Tiger and I."

Steinberg added that the brand will use Woods to appeal to a new demographic and following news of the announcement shares of the publicly traded MusclePharm rose by nearly 10 per cent in the first hour of trading today.

"Tiger Woods is more than a golfer," said Brad Pyatt, the chairman and chief executive of Denver-based MusclePharm, who count American Football stars Eric Decker of the New York Jets and San Francisco 49ers' Colin Kaepernick among its athlete portfolio while it also has deals in place with the Ultimate Fighting Championship and USA Wrestling.

"He is an elite athlete possessing legendary work ethic and determination as well as a focus on remaining in top physical shape.

"We are excited to work with Tiger to bring more attention to nutritional science and how it can enhance strength and overall athletic performance - and most importantly - fuel athletes safely."

Rival nutrition supplement supplier Fuse Science had been Woods' bag sponsor since 2011 following previous deals with Titleist, Buick and AT&T.

Despite a much publicised divorce from former wife Elin Nordegren following revelations of extra-marital affairs in 2009, which saw Woods dropped by a number of sponsors, he remains the highest earning golfer in the world.

The 38-year-old has had a long-standing partnership with sports giant Nike and also has deals with Electronic Arts, Rolex, Netjets and Kowa among others.

Woods had not played competitively since March after undergoing back surgery which forced him to miss out on the first two majors of the year, the US Masters and the US Open.

Steinberg revealed that Woods is making steady progress in his recovery but would not confirm whether he would be fit enough to take part in the Open Championship at Royal Liverpool, Hoylake, from July 17 to 20.

If he were not to appear at Hoylake it would be the first time Woods has missed three consecutive major Championships in his career.
