The CAS confirmed in a statement today that Beşiktaş would be banned from this season's UEFA Europa League in relation to their 2011 Turkish Cup final win over İstanbul Büyükşehir Belediyespor, which a member of the opposing side admitted was rigged.

"The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has today dismissed the appeal filed by Beşiktaş JK against the decision taken by UEFA to exclude Europa League 2013/2014," read a statement from the court.

"UEFA excluded Beşiktaş JK from the current edition of the Europa League because of match-fixing.

"The Turkish club appealed such decision to the CAS.

"The parties were heard at a hearing at the CAS on 20 August 2013.

"Pursuant to the UEFA decision, which is now confirmed by the CAS, Beşiktaş JK is excluded from the Europa League 2013/14."

Despite winning in their Europa League qualification playoff round last night, the decision to reject the appeal means that it was Beşiktaş' defeated opponents, Norwegian side Tromsø, who entered the Europa League group stage draw earlier today, where they were drawn against Tottenham Hotspur, Anzhi Makhachkala and FC Sheriff.

Cypriot side APOEL FC replaced Fenerbahçe in the draw after being randomly drawn from the teams that lost their qualifying playoff matches.
