Toyota has been announced as the global partner of the upcoming FIBA World Championship for Women ©Getty ImagesJapanese car manufacturing giant Toyota has signed up as an official global partner of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) World Championship for Women, due to get underway in Turkey next month.

The deal has been announced to mark 50 days to go until competition tips-off and will see Toyota act as the official car of the tournament.

"The FIBA World Championship for Women is fast-approaching and we are extremely pleased to have a world-leading and renowned brand like Toyota come on board and be a part of this unique event," said FIBA secretary general and International Olympic Committee member Patrick Baumann.

"It speaks to the high quality level of the tournament."

Turkey was awarded the Championships in 2011 and has previously hosted the men's World Championship in 2010, which saw matches take place in Istanbul, Ankara, İzmir and Kayseri.

This year's World Championship for Women will feature the top 16 teams in the world, with matches set to be staged in Turkish capital Ankara and Istanbul from September 27 to October 5.

The United States, the Olympic champions, will be defending the title they won in Czech Republic in 2010 after victory over the hosts and will be chasing a ninth world title in 17 attempts.

The draw for the Championship took place in Istanbul in March and placed the US in Group D alongside African champions Angola, China and Serbia.

Hosts Turkey will take on London 2012 silver medal winners France, along with Canada and World Championship debutants Mozambique.

Group C features 2006 champions Australia, Belarus, Cuba and South Korea, while 1994 champions Brazil are in what is probably the toughest grouping as they face 2010 runners-up Czech Republic and bronze medallists Spain as well as Japan in Group C.

FIBA and the Turkish Basketball Federation (TBF) claim they will use the Championship to increase the impact of basketball in empowering young girls and women around the world.

This will be done through a strategy of setting affordable ticket prices for entry into all matches, while the TBF's social responsibility and legacy programme, PASS IT ON, will also be run alongside the Championship.
